Clean and Bright Smile

TKC hygienist only performs dental hygiene treatment and is highly experienced. Each one of us should have Two Hygiene treatments per year. Yes, it is absolutely essential. Any plaque and tartar build up can negatively impact the gum and result in much more serious and advanced problems with your gums and teeth. The dental hygiene treatment is also performed regularly as a preventative care solution and as a preparation for a smile make-over. Additionally, we recommend patients to have hygiene before and after wearing teeth straightening appliances. If you want whiter teeth, you should have dental hygiene first to maximise your results.

Type of treatments

  • Scale and Polish Dental Hygiene is when the hygienists cleans the gum line and removes plaque, and tartar from both back and front of your teeth. However much we brush and floss our teeth, we can never do as good job as the hygienist does.

  • Airflow Polish a Dental Hygiene treatment and is performed as an addition to the Scale and Polish treatment. Airflow Polish effectively removes stains on the front and at the back of the teeth. The procedure works by using a fine jet of compressed air, water and fine powder particles to remove staining caused by coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and some mouthwashes. This complete dental hygiene treatment is non-invasive and pain-free. Some people may experience a minor discomfort, due to their teeth sensitivity and quite often if they have not attended a dental hygiene appointment in more than 6 months.

Immaculate care and Professionalism

Our patients also enjoy complimentary rates and follow up appointments as part of their membership plan that includes at least 2 hygiene visits per year. Find out more here.

A good dental hygienist is a hygienist who is thorough and attentive. Our hygienist is incredibly celebrated by patients for her excellent treatment and her gentle touch. She always goes the extra mile to fully understand what the patient lifestyle is and advise accordingly on oral care routine at home.

Do I really need to floss?

Yes, you do need to floss. Whether you are using a waxed or unwaxed floss, or interdental brushes. Your hygienist will advise you on what the best at home routine for your is. Not flossing, creates a favourable environment for a plaque build up which hardens and becomes tartar. This tartar widens the space between the teeth and gums and causes the appearance of dental pockets. If left unattended, the gums would pull away and teeth may loosen. Hence, why regularly check-ups and dental hygiene visits are important. Essentially, flossing or using interdental brushes removes food stuck between the teeth and under the gumline. Flossing aids your dental hygiene at home by clearing food and plaque from between teeth and under the gumline.

Shall I use mouthwashes?

Your dental hygiene routine should be consulted with your hygienist. One thing is for certain, rinsing with mouthwash does not mean no more brushing, no need for flossing or visiting your hygienists. There is a wide range of mouthwashes, some of which may not be suitable for your case. Some contain alcohol and if you suffer from dry mouth, alcohol based mouthwash will only make the situation worse. There are speciality mouthwashes that fight off particular bacteria and better suited for gum disease related symptoms.

What should I do at home to maintain good oral care?

Brush twice daily, after food. Not immediately, especially if you have consumed sugar based foods or liquids. Floss after meals and after that rinse with a mouthwash suited for you, or with lukewarm water. Most patients also benefit from wateflosser devices, which use only water and at the same time, provide deeper cleaning at home. Avoid using at home scalers. In fact, do not use any. There is a reason why professional dental hygiene is performed at the dental office. Avoid tobacco products and ensure you attend your regular check-ups and dental hygiene visits. Further guidance is provided specific to each patient’s case.
